The mission of Morning Star is to point people to the grace of God that we find in Jesus.
We pursue this mission through a vision of:

• inspirational worship
• radical inclusion
• alleviation of suffering

A six-week worship series called “Journey in Song: A Movement of Faith Through Favorite Hymns” will continue on Sunday, October 4, 2026, as we explore themes of classic hymns that have been selected by the congregation. The third message in the series features #545 in the United Methodist Hymnal, “The Church’s One Foundation,” and is rooted in Ephesians 2:11–22.

Contemporary worship will take place in person and online (mstarlc.church and YouTube) at 9:15 AM, and traditional worship will take place in person at 11:15 AM. Both services will include a recognition of Father’s Day, with appreciation for all men who influence our lives, families and communities.

All are welcome!

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, we celebrated the baptisms of Henry James and Emmett William, sons of Christina Garton and Sean Salley. Let us give thanks for these beautiful children of God!

All Saints’ Day will be observed in both worship services at Morning Star on Sunday, November 1, 2026. This holy day gives us the opportunity to honor the legacies of those who have died in the past year. During the worship services, we will light a candle for each person in gratitude and honor for the influence of a life well lived. If someone in your life has died since last All Saints’ Day (11/02/25) and you would like to include that person in this year’s list, please send a name, and if possible, a photo and the dates of birth and death, to be included in our observance to amy@mstarlc.church. I am happy to share with you my family’s plan for a real vacation, just the five of us! With the blessing of your Church Leadership Board, I will be on vacation from Saturday, October 3 through Monday, October 12, 2026. I hope you know I would never leave you unsupported, so here’s how things will work while I’m away.

Pastoral Care
Your pastoral care needs will be addressed by Rev. Gorton Smith. Please call (575) 521-3770 or send an email to info@mstarlc.church for Rev. Smith’s contact information, should you need it. The church staff will be ready to connect you.

Communication
To ensure that I make the most of this family time and am not completely overwhelmed when I return, I will not be responding to text messages and emails that are sent between October 3 and October 12. I will be back in the office on October 13, so please reach out to me before October 2 or on October 13 or later, and I will be quick to respond.

Worship
One more thing, please participate in worship on Sundays October 4 and October 11, whether in person or online. Our “Journey in Song” series will continue with two excellent preachers, Rev. Fred Davis and Kathy Naegele-Delgado. They will be exploring favorite hymns “The Church’s One Foundation” and “Blessed Assurance,” respectively, and you will be blessed by their perspectives.

Calling all Kinder–5th grade creators! Register now for a week of colorful, hands-on art projects at Fall Break Art Camp, coming up on October 5-9 (9 AM to noon). Registration is $100 for your first child and $50 for siblings. Spots are limited, so pre-register by September 30 to secure your place!

The Morning Star Food Pantry is holding a food drive over the coming weeks to help supplement supplies during food shortages experienced by the Roadrunner Food Bank.

You can drop off donations at Morning Star during regular office hours (Monday–Thursday, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM) or on Sunday mornings.

I just wanted to remind the Morning Star Congregations that the month of October is Pastor/Staff Appreciation Month. I would encourage everyone to show love and care to our pastor and staff for all they do. It is important to nourish their souls and bodies with cards, drinks, snacks, or maybe a lunch or dinner invite, just as they nourish us in so many ways. Here at Morning Star we are so blessed to have a pastor and staff who have such compassion and dedication to us. Let us shower them with love and appreciation throughout the month of October. Halloween is just around the corner! Morning Star is beginning to collect individually wrapped candy for our annual Haunted House, taking place on Friday, October 30. Candy can be dropped off during office hours or on Sunday mornings.

Please be in prayer for the family of longtime member Bette Janer, who passed away on Friday, September 18 in Kentucky with family nearby. Bette was active with our Food Pantry, the Mission Team, Rummage Sales, and the Quilting Group. She always brought good humor and laughter to our activities.

We want to make Practicing Generosity as easy as possible at Morning Star.
