Read That Again: Church History You Didn’t Learn in Sunday School

A four-part worship series called “Read That Again: Church History You Didn’t Learn in Sunday School” runs from February 1 through February 22, 2026, as we turn our attention to the influence of African American leaders in the Methodist tradition.
The first message in the series, “Freedom and Opportunity,” is rooted in Galatians 5:1,13-15 and features the story of Richard Allen, founder of the African American Episcopal Church.
The second message in the series, “Faith Underground,” is rooted in Exodus 14:10-14 and features the story of Harriet Tubman, a key organizer in the resistance against slavery in the 1800s.
The third message in the series, “Living Knowledge,” is rooted in Hosea 4:4-6 and features the story of Mary McLeod Bethune, legendary educator and founder of Bethune-Cookman University.
The final message in the series, “Woe to Religion,” is rooted in Matthew 23:23-28 and features the story of Bishop James S. Thomas, a prophetic voice in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Contemporary worship takes place in-person and online at 9:15 AM and traditional worship takes place in person at 11:15 AM every Sunday.
All are welcome!
